Ideas target Queenstown's traffic woes

Improvements to public transport, including commuter ferry services and ‘‘park and ride'' transport options, are ‘‘under consideration'', Queenstown Lakes District Council chief executive Mike Theelen says.

Improvements to public transport to ease traffic woes were being considered, including a park-and-ride system, Fairfax reported.

Mr Theelen also said there was ‘‘potential'' for assessing the expansion of the lake ferry service - which takes passengers from the Hilton Hotel to Steamer Wharf 10 times a day at present - to a commuter service.

An ‘‘attractive package'' of public transport options were needed to increase patronage and ease congestion as the council could never build enough roads, he said.
