Wakatipu health care report due for release

A consultation document on a new model of health care for the Wakatipu area is expected to be released next week.

Yesterday, Otago-Southland District Health Board regional chief executive Brian Rousseau met Queenstown Lakes Mayor Clive Geddes and Wakatipu Health Trust spokeswoman Maria Cole in Queenstown to discuss the consultation document.

Earlier this month, the board discussed the proposal in a closed session in Invercargill.

Mrs Cole told the Otago Daily Times it was "premature" to say anything about the document, which she was yet to see.

"We've had a lot of dialogue about it [but] I haven't seen it yet," she said.

When asked if she was happy the board had discussed the future of health care in the Wakatipu behind closed doors thus far, Mrs Cole said it was "irrelevant whether I'm happy or not".

"This is the way boards do these things.

"I'm mindful they've also been doing the hospital capacity review to this point.

"It's premature for me to say anything else."

Mr Geddes could not be contacted for comment last night.
