New Zealanders Hayden Paddon and John Kennard powered to a
convincing win in the second round of the national rally
championship in the Waikato at the weekend.
By the end of the weekend, one lucky driver will have earned
the right to become the first Kiwi in 30 years to have their
name engraved on the Rally New Zealand winners' trophy.
Some of the country's top drivers are lining up for this
weekend's Rally New Zealand, which will take them through
more than 260km of competitive stages through the
Franklin, North Waikato and Raglan districts.
Geraldine driver Hayden Paddon is seeking a morale-boosting
win at this weekend's Rally of New Zealand before resuming
his pursuit of the production world rally championship (PWRC)
round in Argentina.
An already strong entry list for this year's two-day Rally
New Zealand has been bolstered with confirmation that
two-time New Zealand rally champion Hayden Paddon has entered
the event with his new Subaru STI rally car.
Rally New Zealand again showed its ability to produce a
thrilling finish when Finn Jari-Matti Latvala came from
behind to take the title yesterday by the equal third-closest
margin in World Rally Championship history.
