More than 800 children representing 87 schools competed at the Otago primary and intermediate schools cross-country at Kaikorai Valley College yesterday.
Chilly conditions and a wet track greeted them. Mud was in plentiful supply, as were red faces and gasping.
The odd tear or two also made an appearance.
