The on-licence of Dunedin student pub the Captain Cook Tavern
has been suspended for 24 hours after a $3.50-per-jug
promotion was allowed to take place during a quiz night
attended mainly by students.
In a test case that could have far-reaching implications, the
Liquor Licensing Authority will consider if selling
subsidised drinks to students at a private function at a
student bar breached the Sale of Liquor Act by promoting the
excess consumption of alcohol.
The police have applied for the cancellation or suspension of
an on-licence involving the Captain Cook Tavern, Dunedin, and
the Liquor Licensing Authority will hear the matter later
this month.
