David Bain will have to meet an "extraordinary circumstances"
test in his bid for compensation for wrongful conviction and
imprisonment, Justice Minister Simon Power said today.
David Bain's fight for compensation from the Government would
involve proving not only his innocence but that his father,
Robin Bain, murdered his family, a University of Otago
professor of criminal law said last night.
The Minister of Justice, Simon Power, has this afternoon
received a letter from the lawyers for David Bain formally
notifying him of a claim for compensation for ‘wrongful
conviction and imprisonment.'
