World Cup teams and supporters face a marathon of travelling
after organisers decided countries must play their group
games in different venues around Brazil at the 2014 World
Cup.
It has become fashionable in certain quarters to decry major
international sporting tournaments and events as needlessly
extravagant, prohibitively expensive to host, and bearing an
opportunity cost that borders on the criminally negligent.
World Cup organisers promise a high-tech closing ceremony
featuring pop star Shakira, compared to the more
traditionally African ceremony which opened the tournament.
