The new J.J. Abrams thriller Super 8 takes place in
1979 in a pleasingly bland American every-suburb, the kind of
place where Steven Spielberg famously set his classic
science-fiction fantasies, E.T. and Close
Encounters of the Third Kind.
The first movie made about the earliest European ascent of
the Remarkables mountain summit in 1864 has been selected as
a finalist in the New Zealand Mountain Film Festival in
Wanaka next month.
Wakatipu locations feature in all five movies which competed
in Tourism New Zealand's 100% Pure Your Big Break short film
competition and which are posted for a worldwide audience
online.
Hollywood blockbuster Avatar will double-bill at the
eagerly anticipated world premiere of a Wanaka short film,
Rabbits, at Cinema Paradiso, in Wanaka, tomorrow
night.
