One of the contestants in the 2011 Michael Hill International Violin Competition has released an atmospheric classical music video on YouTube.

Russian violinist Sergey Malov has won this year's Michael Hill International Violin Competition, accompanied in the final stage by the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra.

The 18 young competitors in the 2011 Michael Hill International Violin Competition are already winners for reaching the semifinals in Queenstown, the event's founder says.

Applications have opened for the Michael Hill International Violin Competition, with an expanded prize pool of more than $NZ100,000.
