Prime Minister Helen Clark left a remote mountain hut late
last night so she could spend time with the widow of her
close friend and mountain guide Gottlieb Braun-Elwert who
died on a backcountry trip yesterday.
Gottlieb Braun-Elwert, who has perished on a mountaineering
trip with his friend Prime Minister Helen Clark, was a
mountain guide running a tourist business, Alpine Recreation,
in Lake Tekapo.
A break in the snow has let search and rescue staff send in a
helicopter to rescue the remaining members of Prime Minister
Helen Clark's ski party this morning.
