Lines company Delta Utility Services is investigating a
faulty cable switch thought to be responsible for cutting
power to 108 businesses in Shotover St, Beach St and
Queenstown Wharf on Tuesday.
High wind cut electricity to about 500 homes in Becks,
Ettrick and Millers Flat for several hours yesterday and wind
gusts may also have been a factor in a motor vehicle crash
near Omakau early in the morning.
About 10,000 North Otago
households were without electricity for almost two hours last
night after a major fault at the junction between national
grid and the region's power lines.
A power cut in Wanaka about 11am yesterday was caused by a
fault in protection equipment at the Wanaka substation, Delta
systems control manager Graeme Johnson, of Cromwell, said
yesterday.
