NZ agencies threatened by cyber attack

Sensitive information about the New Zealand Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet and other New Zealand agencies may be at risk after its US host was hacked.

US intelligence firm Stratfor had its website hacked by activist group Anonymous on Monday (New Zealand time) and data, including credit card details of its clients, was stolen.

Stratfor's high-profile clients include the US Defence Department and the US Air Force, Apple and Microsoft, and New Zealand's Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC).

A DPMC spokesman told Radio New Zealand the department was confident none of its information was at risk, but was looking into whether anything had been compromised.

Other Stratfor clients are reported to include the New Zealand Police, New Zealand Fire Service and Air New Zealand.

Why are these sites in a foreign country!

New Zealand government sites should be in New Zealand and under the control of the New Zealand Government.

Looking at the past history of the US government, they cannot be trusted.  Just look at the number of times the US has fiddled in the internal affairs of other countries and used lies like "he has weapons of mass destruction" as an excuse to start a war.
