The rail transport advocate group 'Get the Train' is planning another one-day-only Waitati-Dunedin-Waitati commuter train.

The service will be run during Walk 2 Work Week, on March 10, spokesperson Danielle Cameron told 'Blueskin News'.

"We really want to pack this train out so put it in your diaries now and tell people."

Ontrack, a subsidiary of Kiwirail, had nearly 60 men working on a two-day maintenance project alongside Blueskin Bay on the weekend of 18-19 September.

The Dunedin City Council is chartering a commuter train from Taieri Gorge Railway for the Waitati/Dunedin route on Tuesday, 22 September to celebrate World Car-Free Day.

Over a hundred people waited in the mist at the old Waitati station site for the commuter train to Dunedin.

Otago voted with its feet in favour of regional rail services yesterday when the Taieri Gorge Railway charter train to Wingatui was booked out.

Extra bus services were organised in addition to the train to take racegoers to the racing club's Melbourne Cup Day.

'Get the Train' group was formed on October 23 2008. The meeting, held in Waitati, discussed promotion, a submission to next year's ORC 10 yearly Plan, whether we need to set up a legal entity and how to go about a feasibility study.
