A young girl wearing a suicide vest has been detained in
southern Afghanistan, officials say.
The Afghan girl, said to be as young as 8, was held in
Helmand province as she tried to carry out an attack on
border police, BBC reports.
The girl was thought to be the sister of a prominent Taliban
commander, who encouraged to carry out the attack.
Either she could not operate the button to detonate the
suicide vest, or she was arrested before she could carry out
the attack, an interior ministry spokesman said.
The girl has now been transferred to the provincial capital
of Lashkar Gah.
