A magnitude 7.3 earthquake has struck off the coast of Vanuatu, the US Geological Survey says.
Friday's quake was centred about 95km southeast of the town of Santo at a depth of 10km, USGS said.
A resident described the quake as a short, violent shake at daybreak.
Power was temporarily cut immediately after the tremor. However, there have been no reports of damage.
There was no threat of a Pacific-wide tsunami, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center advised.
New Zealand Civil Defence said there was no tsunami threat to New Zealand.
