An iconic newspaper likely to be familiar to any New
Zealander who has lived in London looks to have published for
the last time.
Targeting ex-pats, the New Zealand News UK has distributed in
London and various other parts of Britain since 1927, but
suspended publishing in July after striking hard times.
Little or no prospect of trading out of debt suggests the
internet age, coupled with a recession, has been damaging for
the weekly tabloid-sized paper.
The newspaper employed many New Zealanders over the years and
used NZPA content to keep readers up to speed with news from
home, while also acting as a useful medium for job hunting
and contacting long-lost friends.
The publication went online in 2006 and the website is still
functional.
