A taxi driver who stabbed a female student in the face and
dumped her at a bus stop in Queensland's far north has been
handed a life jail sentence for murder.
Andreas Mueller, 52, pleaded guilty in Queensland Supreme
Court in Cairns today to murdering 21-year-old Erica Liddy in
April last year.
The court was told Mueller picked up Ms Liddy from Cairns and
agreed to take her to her friend's house, but on the way she
asked to be taken to his house.
While she slept, he stabbed her beneath the eye with a butter
He eventually took her to a bus stop at Freshwater, but only
after sleeping and working another shift in his cab, the
court was told.
Mueller called triple-0, but did not wait for the ambulance
to arrive at the bus stop. Ms Liddy died in hospital three
Justice Jim Henry sentenced Mueller to life in prison, with a
non-parole period of 15 years.
