The international gay love triangle which cost a Texan man
his life has cost another his freedom, after Qatari man
Mohammed Ahmed Almansouri was convicted of murder in a Perth
court.
Almansouri, 39, was found guilty by a Supreme Court jury of
fatally stabbing love rival Kenny Horack last August.
Mr Horack, from Texas, was stabbed 14 times by Almansouri
after tensions surrounding their complicated relationships
with shared lover Ben Campbell spilled over into a brutal
attack at the home the trio shared in Perth's western
suburbs.
After a two-week trial, in which Almansouri claimed self
defence and that he'd been bullied by Mr Horack, the jury
took less than two hours to convict Almansouri of murder.
He faces a life sentence when he returns to court to be
sentenced in February.
After the verdict, Mr Campbell refused to comment, having
watched proceedings from the public gallery.
The jury had been given conflicting accounts of what happened
on the night of August 4, 2011, when Almansouri and Mr Horack
clashed at the Subiaco property.
The prosecution claimed Almansouri had become increasingly
jealous of Mr Campbell's long-term relationship after he
(Almansouri) had met Mr Horack in Qatar in 2009.
Prosecutor Laura Christian told the court that after
returning home, Almansouri had snapped when he realised
photos of him and Mr Campbell in the loungeroom had been
replaced by some of Mr Horack and Mr Campbell.
In a police interview after the stabbing, Almansouri said he
had "got like fire" just before Mr Horack was attacked.
In his defence, Almansouri claimed Mr Horack had bullied him
repeatedly during his time with Mr Campbell - being labelled
a "houseboy" - and on the night of the stabbing had shouted
at him, pushed him, and eventually stabbed Almansouri in the
buttocks.
Almansouri said he was defending himself when he inflicted
the fatal wounds to Mr Horack.
When police arrived at the house around 7.30pm (WST) they
found Mr Horack slumped over and covered in blood with a
knife nearby.
Mr Horack suffered 14 stab wounds, three of which were fatal
on their own, including wounds to his head, neck, chest, arm,
leg and shoulder.
Mr Campbell earlier told the court he lived in Texas with Mr
Horack but moved to Qatar for work in August 2007, which was
where he met Almansouri via a website in 2009.
He said both partners knew about each other and Mr Horack,
who remained in Texas, was sad about his relationship with
Almansouri.
Almansouri accompanied Mr Campbell to Texas in April 2011 and
stayed at the couple's home in a separate bedroom.
