A woman found dead in an apartment in Newcastle had been
stabbed numerous times and had a meat cleaver embedded in her
neck, police say.
Police charged a 30-year-old Chinese national with murder
after finding the 30-year-old woman in the lounge room of a
Brown Street apartment in inner Newcastle, just before 3.30am
(local time) on Monday.
The man was arrested at the scene.
Yesterday, Newcastle police told AAP the woman had multiple
stab wounds and a meat cleaver lodged in her neck.
Detective Senior Sergeant Rob Waugh of Newcastle City Police
said the victim and her alleged attacker knew each other, but
he did not elaborate on the nature of the relationship.
He confirmed reports of an argument and said a triple-0 call
had been made.
The accused man was refused bail and is due to front
Newcastle Local Court on Tuesday.
