The body of a teenage boy, who went missing after being
caught in a rip while swimming off a West Australian beach,
has been found.
Water police were leading the land and air search for
13-year-old Jenon Biwot, whose body was recovered and taken
to Fremantle just before midday on Monday.
The teenager disappeared in the surf on Sunday afternoon as
he swam with friends at Claytons Beach, close to Mindarie
Marina, north of Perth.
Another 13-year-old was swimming with Jenon and was pulled to
safety.
A young girl at the scene attempted to rescue Jenon, but was
unable to get him to shore.
Jenon's family had returned to the beach on Monday morning to
watch on as rescuers searched for any sign of the youngster.
His family is originally from South Sudan and arrived in
Perth from a refugee camp in Uganda, where Jenon was
reportedly born.
The beach is becoming notorious among locals, after a
47-year-old British tourist died when he got caught in a rip
in the same area in January.
