It was an unfortunate case of mistaken identity when an
off-duty police officer was assaulted and robbed by three men
in Sydney's west.
The policeman was crossing a road in Harris Park on Friday
afternoon when a man in a car yelled out to him and pulled
his vehicle into a nearby driveway.
Police say the male driver and two passengers got out of the
car and assaulted the officer.
They stole his backpack, containing his police uniform and
identification, before the officer escaped uninjured.
He was able to take a photograph of the vehicle.
Police say the off-duty officer was not the intended victim
of the robbers.
"They've got the wrong man, basically," a police spokesman
Police carried out a search warrant at a property in
Blacktown on Friday night, where they allegedly found a
police uniform and identification.
A 32-year-old man was arrested and subsequently charged with
robbery in company.
