Brandi Brandt was the quintessential California rock goddess
of the 1980s and early 90s, a Playboy model and actress with
big hair best known for marrying Motley Crue bassist Nikki
Today, Brandt sits in a jail cell inside the concrete,
fortress-like Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in downtown
Los Angeles awaiting extradition to Australia.
Brandt is accused of playing a role in a brazen US-Australia
cocaine importation syndicate that hid packages of the drug
on Qantas and United Airlines passenger planes that flew from
California to Sydney and, after landing in the harbour city,
were collected by employees of an airline catering company.
Brandt's former boyfriend and co-conspirator, Crusty Demons
motorcycle stuntman Rusty Setser, is also locked up in a MDC
cell awaiting extradition to Australia.
Both avoided lengthy court battles in Los Angeles by
consenting to be extradited.
Brandt, who on the March 1990 cover of Playboy posed with
real estate mogul and future reality TV star Donald Trump,
apparently is holding up well in the downtown jail despite
facing a maximum life jail sentence in Australia.
"Anyone who is in custody getting extradited to another
country that is very far away would not be happy, I guess,"
Brandt's lawyer, Anthony Solis, told AAP.
"She hasn't expressed any particular emotion about it."
Brandt could spend another two months locked up in the MDC
before officials in Australia and the US complete the
paperwork for her extradition, Solis said.
Brandt and Setser have been charged in Australia with one
count of conspiracy to import a commercial quantity of
cocaine and one count of dealing with the proceeds of crime
worth $A100,000 or more.
Australian authorities allege Brandt, 44, flew from Los
Angeles to Australia twice in 2007, but stayed in Australia
for three days or less on both occasions.
She allegedly arrived in Sydney on November 4, 2007, on a
Qantas plane, booked into the Swiss Grand Hotel at Bondi
Beach and between November 5 and 7 transferred $A71,650 to
herself in eight separate transactions via various banks.
After Setser was denied a visa to enter Australia,
authorities said Brandt boarded a United Airlines flight that
arrived in Sydney on December 2, 2007. Australian Customs
officers, using a drug-sniffing dog, searched the United
plane and found a 12-block package of cocaine hidden in a
rubbish bin in a toilet at the rear of the aircraft.
Brandt allegedly flew back to LA the next day.
From July 23 to September 29, 2007, Brandt received 10 money
wire transfers from various individuals in Australia,
according to court documents.
Including the eight wire transfers Brandt sent to herself
while in Australia, she received $A130,760 from Australia
while Setser received $A138,205, according to court
Authorities, who obtained text messages from Setser's mobile
phone, allege he codenamed cocaine parcels as surfboards.
In one text message he allegedly sent to an Australian
co-conspirator Setser wrote: "I need to run by you a package
of boards that will blow your mind the foam is hands down the
best on the market! These boards will blow your mind".
Brandt married Sixx in 1989 and they had three children -
Gunner, Decker and Storm - but one month after they divorced
in 1996 Sixx married another Playboy Playmate and former
Baywatch star, Donna D'Errico.
