Two men have been accused of luring a woman in via social
media before abducting her, driving her to a Canberra
apartment and sexually assaulting her.
It's alleged the men, aged 31 and 20, arranged a meeting with
the woman using a social networking application.
When she went to meet the men at Holt's Kippax Fair shopping
centre on September 26, they allegedly drove her to a
Belconnen apartment and sexually assaulted her.
The men were arrested on Friday and charged with sexual
assault, forcible confinement, acts of indecency and
They will face the ACT Magistrates Court on Saturday, and
police have indicated they will oppose bail.
Superintendent Justine Gough said it was a stark reminder
that social media apps needed to be approached with caution.
"I urge all social media users to prioritise their personal
safety when interacting with other users," she said.
"These sites can be, and are, used by criminals to commit a
variety of criminal offences."
