Teen faces big fine over wild party, brawl

A Queensland teenager could face jail time and a huge fine over a wild party and street brawl in Townsville.

Police were called to a home in suburban Gulliver on Saturday night after neighbours reported more than 100 people were fighting in the street.

As they worked to break-up the crowd, one officer was hit in the head with a can of drink.

The 17-year-old boy who organised the party is now in serious hot water, and could become the first Queenslander convicted under tough new laws to deal with out of control parties.

The laws, passed last month, allow party organisers, parents or gatecrashers to be slapped with $12,000 fines or one-year jail terms.

If police face violence when shutting down parties, organisers can be fined up to $18,150 and face three years in prison.
