Worker severely burnt at meatworks

A worker at a Tasmanian meatworks has been taken to hospital with severe burns after a pressure cooker in a fat rendering plant exploded.

Police say the 59-year-old man received burns to his face, arms and chest when the pressure cooker at Tasmanian Quality Meats in Cressy exploded at about 6.10pm yesterday.

The man was taken to Launceston General Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Workplace Standards will investigate the accident.
