Policeman's eye socket fractured

A police officer has had his eye socket fractured while helping paramedics treat a man in Sydney's south.

The 22-year-old man allegedly became violent and kicked the male constable while police were attempting to restrain him at a house in Hurstville about 10.35pm on Sunday.

The officer suffered facial injuries and was taken to St George Hospital, where it was found he had sustained two fractures to his eye socket.

He remains in hospital and is expected to be examined by a surgeon.

The 22-year-old was restrained by police and taken to hospital by ambulance.

He remains in hospital with charges expected to be laid.
