Police seek man over Melbourne killing

Police are appealing to a man wanted in connection to the stabbing death of a Melbourne man to hand himself in.

A 22-year-old man was attacked in his St Albans home early on Tuesday while other family members including children were in the house.

Family members drove the victim to Sunshine hospital where he died.

Police have issued an arrest warrant for 30-year-old Vatthana Chounlamountry who they say is known to the victim and also lives in St Albans.

Homicide squad Detective Inspector John Potter said Mr Chounlamountry was seen driving a black Mazda wagon near the deceased man's home on Tuesday morning.

He said anyone who sees Mr Chounlamountry should not approach him and instead contact police.

"Mr Chounlamountry is wanted in connection to the death of another man so we obviously are concerned in regards to the fact that he's still out in the community," he told reporters.

Inspector Chris Gilbert said earlier police don't believe the attack was random and the victim suffered multiple wounds.

"There's been a number of wounds, we're not exactly sure what they've been inflicted by," he told reporters.
