Store owner arrested over fatal Sydney blaze

A 44-year-old store owner is believed to be the man arrested over a fatal explosion in Sydney's inner west that killed three people.

The man, understood to be Adeel Khan, will remain in hospital under police guard after police said they arrested a 44-year-old Greenacre man at a hospital in Camperdown this morning.

He has been in hospital since the blast three weeks ago which claimed the lives of Bianka O'Brien, 31, her baby boy Jude and neighbour Chris Noble, 27.

Since the explosion and subsequent fire that destroyed a building on Rozelle's Darling Street just after 4am on September 4, police have treated it as suspicious.

Three people were also injured in the fire.

Police allege the fire was deliberately lit.

Mr Khan has been in a serious condition in Royal Prince Alfred Hospital since emergency services dug him out of the debris.

Detectives visited the hospital after the explosion to speak with the 44-year-old.

Days after the fire rocked the close-knit community, neighbours told media outlets that Mr Khan usually closed his store at midnight and reopened it at 7am.

Rozelle businesses say it was unusual for Mr Khan, 44, who wasn't often seen behind the counter of his business, to be at the shop that early as it doesn't open until about 7am.

Several gas cylinders were spotted at the back of the shop before the blast, a local business owner said.

Police told AAP there will be a bedside hearing.

The man is expected to be charged later today.
