The gay marriage debate is set to reignite with Liberal Democrat David Leyonhjelm to introduce legislation to allow same-sex couples to tie the knot.
Senator Leyonhjelm is expected to bring a bill before the upper house that will allow two people to marry regardless of gender, sexual orientation or gender identity.
The libertarian doesn't believe government should interfere in people's individual choices and freedoms, and also supports the medical use of marijuana and assisted suicide.
The crossbench senator will outline the details of his legislation at a press conference today.
