One person unaccounted for in Vic bushfire

One person is missing in central Victoria and people living in the north east have been warned they are in danger as bushfires continue to burn out of control in the state.

Fire Services Commissioner Craig Lapsley said gale force winds had made it a difficult night for firefighters who are battling blazes in several parts of Victoria.

While the situation's still dynamic, improved weather conditions on Wednesday are expected to help.

But residents of Boweya and Boweya North have been warned they are in danger and should stay indoors as a fire bears down on the area.

The Country Fire Authority told residents on Wednesday they should act now to protect themselves, adding it was too late to leave the area.

The "fast-moving, out of control" fire was travelling in an easterly direction from Lake Rowan towards Boweya and Boweya North, the CFA said.

Mr Lapsley said a Macedon Ranges winery had been damaged by the blaze and one person was unaccounted for.

"We're still trying to assess what we've lost," Mr Lapsley said.

"In the northeast we believe we've had some impact on some houses, but we still need to assess that."
