$20m drug haul seized in Sydney

Drugs worth more than $20 million along with an Uzi machinegun and other firearms have been seized from inside a box trailer in Sydney's west, police say.

Drug Squad detectives attended a property at Edensor Park last Thursday as part of ongoing investigations into the manufacture of prohibited drugs and found chemicals and equipment consistent with a clandestine drug laboratory.

Police said a search of a box trailer seized at the property found more than 50kg of drugs inside including 14.7kg of heroin, 6.2kg of amphetamines tablets, 1.2kg of methylamphetamine, 5 litres of methylamphetamine oil and 30kg of ephedrine.

The drugs seized have an estimated potential street value of $20.8 million.

Numerous firearms were also located in the trailer including an Uzi machine gun, an assault rifle and silencer, four handguns, two shortened shotguns and assorted ammunition, police said.

One of the handguns, a Glock pistol, has since been identified as one of a number of Glock pistols illegally imported into Australia from Germany several years ago.

A 27-year-old man from Greenfield Park has been charged with supplying a large commercial quantity of a prohibited drug and other drug related offences.

He is due to reappear at Campbelltown Local Court on Wednesday.
