Elderly woman tasered in Melbourne home invasion

An elderly woman was tortured with a Taser and threatened with a knife during a violent home robbery.

Police say a man and a woman posing as council workers forced themselves into her Melbourne home and demanded money after a brief conversation with the 78-year-old on Saturday afternoon.

It's believed the woman spoke to the victim in her native Greek language.

Once inside, the pair demanded money, punched the woman to the ground, bound her arms and legs and ransacked her Alphington home.

The man used a Taser on the woman two or three times.

"At this stage we are still looking into why the Taser was used," Detective Senior Constable Daniel Chapman told Fairfax Radio.

"Whether it was used to try and tell them where the money was or if there was any money."

Det Sen Const Chapman said the man also pulled out a knife and threatened to kill the woman.

The victim has told police she blacked out a number of times during the attack and remains traumatised.

Police have released a FACE image of a man and a woman they are seeking.
