NSW man falls 10 metres out of hanging car

A man has fallen 10 metres after trying to escape from a car which was left hanging over the side of a bridge in Sydney's west when the driver lost control.

Police say the BMW in which the man was a passenger was turning left before a railway overpass in Lidcombe, when it crashed into a fence on the other side of the road and was left hanging over the side of the bridge.

The man was trying to get out of the car when he fell.

He was taken to hospital with serious injuries and remains in a stable condition.

The male driver of the car was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The area around the bridge is closed to traffic as police try to remove the car.
