Mother to be sentenced over boy's death

A woman who blamed the death of her seven-year-old son on an accidental fall from pogo stick is due to be sentenced in a Sydney court after admitting she lied.

The boy died in Sydney in May 2013 following months of alleged abuse.

His 27-year-old mother will face the NSW Supreme Court today after pleading guilty to manslaughter and a string of other charges, including assault and the production of child abuse material.

In the months before his death, the boy was forced to wear his soiled underpants on his head, deprived of nourishment and made to undergo "boot-camp"-style punishment, a court was earlier told.

The woman's boyfriend, a music producer who also cannot be named, is due to face trial in October charged with murder.
