Queensland cafe blast driver wakes from coma

The driver of the ute that sparked the powerful explosion that tore through a far north Queensland cafe has woken from an induced coma.

Brian Scutt, 60, broke his back when he suffered a medical event and crashed into a gas bottle behind the Serves You Right Cafe at Ravenshoe on June 9, killing two people and seriously injuring 18 more.

Mr Scutt's son, Jimmy Scutt, told Fairfax Media his father, who is in the Cairns Base Hospital, is awake but has not yet been told about the crash.
