Crew to be winched into NSW bushfire

Specialist firefighters will be winched into a valley in NSW's Blue Mountains to combat a blaze following days of strong winds.

Relief arrived with better weather on Monday for firefighters who had been battling fires, some of which threatened homes in Wentworth Falls over the weekend.

An active fire remains in the Jamison Valley, where a specialist team will today be winched into areas inaccessible without a helicopter, the RFS says.

"They will be working to build containment lines," RFS spokeswoman Natalie Sanders said.

At this stage the cause of the bushfire is unknown, and police and the RFS are investigating if it's suspicious.
