NSW man charged with beating dog to death

A NSW man accused of beating a dog to death with a hammer and a shovel has been charged with animal cruelty.

The man allegedly found the male American Bulldog on his Inverell property on Sunday morning, and struck it repeatedly in the head with the weapons.

The dog died at the scene.

Police notified the dog's owner, and, following an investigation, a 45-year-old man handed himself in last night.

The man was issued a court attendance notice for serious animal cruelty, and is due to appear at Inverell Local Court on November 26.
