Another 640 workers at Adelaide's government-owned shipbuilder ASC will lose their jobs by the end of next year.
This includes contractors and ongoing employees as work on the Air Warfare Destroyer winds up, a spokeswoman says.
ASC's subsequent offshore patrol vessel build is likely to be less labor-intensive, employing about 500 workers compared to 1200 on the AWD project.
