Dad shot dead outside Sydney home

A young father has been shot dead outside his home in Sydney's west while his wife and two children were inside.

It's believed the man's family were inside their Colyton home while he was gunned down around 9pm on Thursday, police say.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, was found lying on the ground of the Coral Pea Court cul-de-sac while his attackers were seen fleeing from the scene, police were told by neighbours.

The man was treated by paramedics but died outside his home.

"It's a tragic shooting," Superintendent Greg Peters told reporters at St Mary's Police Station today.

Police are yet to determine whether the shooting was targeted or linked to bikie gangs, he said.

CCTV footage from the home will be examined.

"It's early at this stage of our inquiries, we're not sure what took place, why he was outside," Supt Peters said.

According to Network Seven, a car in the driveway of the brick home has bullet holes in the front windscreen.

The dead man and his family were known to police, according to The Daily Telegraph.
