Summery Qld as southerners freeze

Southeast Queenslanders will get an early taste of summer as their southern neighbours endure yet another cold snap.

A top of 28degC is forecast for Brisbane on Friday - only 1.1degC cooler than the hottest July day on record.

Northwesterly winds will push up temperatures across the southeast, with respective sunny tops of 29degC and 27degC forecast for Ipswich and the Gold Coast.

The warm weather will continue into tomorrow, with similar maximum temperatures forecast.

Meanwhile, those further down the east coast are being warned to prepare for a cold snap which will send temperatures plummeting over the weekend.

The cold snap is expected to affect Tasmania and Victoria before moving into New South Wales.
