Dunedin woman finishes 8th in Hong Kong Marathon

The 2011 Hong Kong Marathon was run today. New Zealand had two competitors in the Elite Woman's section of the race, Victoria Beck and Shireen Crumpton both of Dunedin.

This was Victoria's 2nd marathon, the first being the Southland marathon in December 2010 and she was thrilled to finish 8th in the Hong Kong Marathon with such little preparation. Things look promising for her future in marathon events. Victoria said after the Hong Hong race that 'she felt better than after the Invercargill race, but the Hong Kong course was a tough undulating course'

Victoria reported that the winning women's time was 2hrs :33min, Victoria finished 8th in a time of 2hrs:45min then there was a gap of 6 minutes to 9th place. Shireen's placing was 14th in 2hrs 58min

There were 2000 competitors in the full marathon which included 20 elite women.
