Dunedin school children will next week be given the
opportunity to try trampolining.
Despite an abundance of Gymnastics clubs in the city there is
currently no trampoline club. It is hoped that the holiday
programme will be the first step to building interest in this
sport and potentially forming a club that can offer the
community the benefits of trampoline.
Trampolining is building momentum nationally and the recent
sucess of the NZ team that travelled to the World Age Group
Championships is testament to this with NZ bringing home a
world title and a second placing.
Daphne Stringer, chair of the National Trampoline Sport
Development Committee and experienced coach and judge,
travelled as part of the NZ World Champs team and will be in
Dunedin next week for a 3 day school holiday programme.
The holiday programme will incorporate the two GymSport codes
already offered in Dunedin; Artistic and Rhythmic gymnastics
but will also have a large focus on trampoline and tumbling.
If a club can be formed locally it will allow children to
learn how to use backyard trampolines safely and will also
allow talented athletes to compete in trampoline as a sport.
The aerial awareness skills that are imparted through
trampoline training are also key in a number of other
sporting disciplines.
SnowSports is a popular pastime in the Otago region which has
a strong crossover with trampoline.
Please see the attached file for more information on the
holiday programme.
