Noisy vehicles are illegal

I live in a suburban residential area of Lower Hutt. Three neighbours have vehicles with non-effective silencers.

These and other noisy vehicles drive round our street waking me up, disturbing my peace and quiet and making it unpleasant to be outside.

The Minister of Transport says it is illegal to have a vehicle that has been modified from original to make it more noisy. The Minister says they can't stop an illegal noisy vehicle from getting a warrant.

The Minister says I should complain about each individual vehicle to the Police.

The Police have accepted my complaints about two individual neighbours and their cars but nothing has happened.

The cars still drive around as noisy as ever. I think the Ministry of Transport should stop noisy vehicles from getting a warrant of fitness.

Yours sincerely,
Mr Robert Chisholm
