Kaikorai Childrens Day took place on Sunday March 7th on the
Nairn Street reserve. The day, organised by the Kaikorai
Presbyterian Church with the active support of Flagstaff
Union and Highgate Presbyterian Churches, bought together
many community organisations with the desire to celebrate
children and to extend to them 'praise and encouragement'
(the national theme of Children's Day 2010).
In organising Children's Day, it was our hope that families
would have time to enjoy each other and that relationships
would be strengthened within the Hills community.
Festivities began with an outdoor church service, led by
members of the Kaikorai and Flagstaff congregations. At
11.30am colourful balloons wre released as the stalls were
opened and the park became a fairground.
Truly there was something for everyone, with Devonshire teas,
hot dogs, sausage sizzles and candyfloss. The horizontal
bungy frustrated many as they tried to reach the elusive
prize, and the Astro ball, mini cars, merry-go-round, crafts,
old-fashioned games entertained the children while the adults
rummaged through the jumble sale.
