A search is underway for an 18-year-old tramper who called for help early this morning after suffering a minor injury near Gisborne.
Senior Sergeant Duncan Hall said the young man called emergency services about 4.30am, He told police he was lost in the bush in the Raukumara Ranges, north of Gisborne and had suffered from a minor injury.
Mr Hall said police were working to locate and retrieve the young man.
"We got a phone call from the man who told us he was lost in the bush.
"A relative of his has been in contact with us, they believe they know where he is, we have also done a mobile locator on his cellphone," Mr Hall said.
