Undeterred by light rain, several hundred Otago Polytechnic graduands surged along George St, in Dunedin, yesterday in an academic procession leading to the end-of-year graduation ceremony at the Dunedin Town Hall.

More than 380 students graduated in person from the polytechnic with certificates, diplomas and degrees at the 3pm ceremony. A further 280 graduated in absentia.

Procession participants were supported by a crowd of onlookers, including family members and friends, many of them taking photographs.

Several members of the crowd also applauded specific graduands as they neared the town hall. Many other delighted onlookers also briskly moved along the main street footpaths to keep up with the graduands' procession.
