One of Otago Polytechnic's longest relationships was marked
this week when a group of students from Edogawa University
arrived in Dunedin.
The Japanese university and Otago Polytechnic have built
their relationship over 20 years, and hundreds of students
have come to Dunedin over that time.
Polytechnic deputy chief executive Dr Robin Day described it
as a "fantastic" and "significant" connection.
It began when a previous deputy director travelled to Japan
and fostered relationships with several universities.
These were pursued, and the first group from Edogawa
University visited in 1996.
This week, 14 first-year English students arrived for a
three-week stay.
They are living with host families, studying and visiting
workplaces and tourist spots in Dunedin and Queenstown.
Travelling with them is Prof Tadaaki Kato, who said the
students enjoyed their time here.
The trips were considered a success due to the improvement in
their language skills, he said.
