The Fresher Competition got physical yesterday as
competitors ran, aerobicised, danced and jostled their way to
the final day of the week-long event.
They competed in the annual clocktower race - none managing
to beat the chimes - tested their bodies with a Les Mills
body attack class and got competitive in a rousing game of
musical chairs.
Jack Montgomerie (18) was glad the planned abseiling event
was cancelled as "it would have been terrifying".
At the end of the fourth day, he had not had enough of the
competition but was "really tired" after participating in
other Orientation events in the evenings.
The winner of the Fresher Competition will be announced today
after the group competes in an inflatable games event,
participates in another Les Mills fitness class and passes
the exotic food challenge.
The top competitor will receive a prize package for an
adventure weekend getaway to Queenstown consisting of free
car hire, food and accommodation, and passes for paragliding,
river surfing, bungy jumping, a canyon swing and a Shotover
Jet ride.
He or she will also receive an iPod, an Xbox, a bicycle, a
Coronet Peak ski pass, two Highlanders season passes, movie
tickets, a massage and a sauna.
