Otago District (Manchester Unity) Oddfellows' half yearly meeting and jubilee of the Tuapeka Pioneer Lodge, held at Lawrence on September 24. - Otago Witness, 6.10.1915.
Our Oamaru correspondent informs us that a public meeting was held yesterday afternoon to chronicle the future control of the Wounded Soldiers' Fund.

The Mayor presided, and there was a fair attendance, including a good representation of the country districts.

The following resolution was passed unanimously:- ''That this public meeting, being of opinion that the purposes for which the fund was created can be best attained by retaining complete local control, declines to accept the invitation of the Otago Patriotic and General Welfare Association for an amalgamation with a view to the creation of a common fund for Otago with an administration centred in Dunedin.''

It was decided that the fund should be known as ''The North Otago Soldiers' Fund'', to be applied primarily for the assistance of disabled soldiers enrolled or domiciled in North Otago, and their dependents, and the dependents of those who may lose their lives in connection with the war.

The management was vested in an executive of 12, the Mayor for the time being to be chairman, and the chairman of the County Council for the time being vice-chairman, and the other 10 members to be elected by ballot at a public meeting.

Provision was made for retirement of half the elective members annually.

The meeting adjourned for a week, and the election of the first executive will then be held.

• A well-attended meeting of the ladies of St. Clair was held on Monday evening for the purpose of forming a branch of the Otago Women's Patriotic Association.

Mrs Park gave an address, explaining the object and working of the association.

A committee was formed as follows:- President, Mrs Petre; vice-presidents, Mesdames Miller and Pope; committee - Mesdames Fenwick, Isaacs, Dick, Williams, Tapley, Perry, and Miss Booley.

It was decided to start work on Monday at the Congregational Hall, which has been placed at the disposal of the ladies.

The residents of St. Clair are requested to take a practical interest in the society by giving their support as members, also by donations of money and goods, which will be thankfully received.

The object - the equipment in both field and hospital of our boys - should appeal to everyone.

At present leather waistcoats for the men at Gallipoli are urgently needed, and as these must be despatched by the beginning of November, there is no time to be lost in getting to work.

Contributions of clothing for the Belgian relief will also be welcome. - ODT, 6.10.1915.
