I am responding to a letter you received on January
13 from Mr Robert Chisholm.
I am one of said neighbours with an apparently noisy car.
My car has just recently come into the country; it has a
brand new VIN & warrant of fitness.
All 3 'noisy' neighbours start work at around 8am and
finish work around 5pm.
Mr Chisholm has made complaints to the police that we drag
race and do burnouts up and down the steet which
simply is untrue.
He has also made at least 3 complaints to the police
community roadwatch about me speeding down the street - again
untrue.
Mr Chisholm has also come onto my property asking if we had
put rubbish in his rubbish bin?
I have spoken with other neighbours and none of them are
bothered by any of the vehicles Mr Chisholm is complaining
about.
Thanks for letting me rant

'It's all-over town, Rick'
Rick, it's everywhere, not just between Surrey St, and Hillside Rd. Amplified exhausts on courier-vans are a case-in-point, along with the misuse of 'boom-boxes', and wherever workmen are present a 'ghetto-blaster' is somewhere not far away, so that their lamentable taste in entertainment can be shared as widely as possible, frequently around entire neighbourhoods.
The sounds of many cars on our roads intrigue me. Billions of dollars are being spent world-wide on the development of vehicles which conform to emission, noise and other standards for everyone's benefit, and some of the world's best designers and engineers are involved; but that tends to be undone by spotty teenagers who 'know-better' than the cars' designers.
The second matter which interests me, is from what source, and how, are warrants-of-fitness obtained? I guess it's with us - as long as someone can 'turn-a-quid' selling the offending devices and the users are too much of idiots to concede that other people are likely to be affected too.
Two years ago, while in North Queensland on holiday, I decided to keep an ear open for the problem over there. On only one occasion, during three weeks spent in Port Douglas, did I hear a car with an objectionably loud exhaust-note. I hate to have to admit it, but that suggests to me a much greater maturity of young people in Australia, than here.
Surrey Street
Rick Completely agree about the cars racing up & down Surrey Street. And no, I'm not a grumpy-old-man having a whinge about the youth of today... I'm a family guy with young kids. If I manage to get a licence plate of one of these idiots....
Noisy cars
Rick
You want to live in Surrey St., between Hillside Rd and Macandrew Rd. Noisy and speeding cars are frequent. Several attempts to get speed bumps years ago were turned down by the council. With the debt we have now there is no hope they will get back to core business. Noisy parties, boom boom boom going on to 3am, are also a problem.
Landlords who let their properties to these people should be held accountable. What about penalty rates? That would soon wake them up and their tenants, Rick. [Abridged]
